I took your advice and made the changes you suggested but then I no longer cared for the design so I
scrapped it and started over from scratch.
The tints, tones and shades I used in this version are much softer; more tranquil-like and a much simpler
design. I was going for abstract and trying to let the colors talk with just a little help from the flowing
ribbons. I picture them blowing in a slight breeze. I hope you like it.
Here is the revision to the original w4a3 design that I ended up scrapping and another version I made of the
second design above:
  Former Classmate Critique This triad pallet of colors was placed very well within the image. Using these hues together gave a very familiar image. We can see the shape of butterflies with the values from the pink and blue as well as in the shape of the flowers. We also see how using different values of green give a more earthy, nature like feel. It makes the image more free, it gives us the sense this is nature and these creatures are roaming freely among the flowers. I feel these were brought together very well. They compliment one another, nature with a calm feeling, along side a nice high-key pink giving it a peaceful feeling. Altogether they give a very tranquil and peaceful image. This pallet shows a very nice array of the chosen hues value. There is little saturation in this piece, but we do see a wide range of colors. These color's come together well and they are used in a very calming way. They bring the colors with the image into an even more tranquil place. They also show a triad used in a very clear and calming matter. If i suggested anything helpful it would be that in such a setting a bit more saturation would have added a bit more distinguished areas. Although for this piece it was perfectly elegant without the added saturation. I would suggest to continue exploring the values. This image shows a very nice arrangement of them, but it never hurts to get even more familiar.

Week 5 Assignment 1
The intended objective of my assignment
will be romantic, energetic, cheerful, and happy.
My motivation to create a work like this is, I feel you cannot have too much of these traits in your life. I plan on using an analogous color pallet of either pink, red, orange, yellow or purple, pink, red, orange, using the various tints, tones, and shades of all the colors. It just depends on which pallet works the best in conveying my idea and feeling(s). I will of course explore other color harmonies as well.
I plan to include hearts, bubbles,
swirls, curly cues, and ribbon type shapes so that the
colors are what convey most of the message (i.e., letting color be the hero of my design.) I will be going for a flowing design with fairly simple shapes.
As far as having any desired goal for
this subject matter or what I want to achieve with this
subject, I would have to say it would simply be art for art's sake. I want to create something that I could hang on the wall in my bedroom. I plan to use various saturation levels, tints, tones and hue shades to create depth and form in my design so that it will elicit an aesthetic response from its viewers.
Challenges I anticipate encountering
would include getting the swirling shapes of the
background to appear to be free flowing and wavy. Also, keeping the background in the background and not letting it overpower the other design elements. To overcome that challenge I plan to review some tutorials, and hopefully I will find even more inspiration in the process.
So, in conclusion, I plan to use line,
shape, size, and contrast variety. I also plan to use
shading and contrast to create depth to my design. I am sure some of the other design principles will come into play as well, as the project develops.  Fellow Classmates Critique Formal Critique In this assignment the task was to draft a proposal of a design of interest. During this process this would allow the artist to brainstorm over potential designs while deciding on some of the basic design tips learned within the last five weeks. The artist was to decide on color strategies, design elements and principals. To further help with the process the artist was charged to think of any challenges that may present any difficulty and present ways that they may be overcome. The artist has presented a very descriptive proposal that allows the reader to imagine exactly what the artist wants to convey. The outline of the proposal addressed all of the required areas required in the assignment. The thumbnails were the required color scale each picture conveyed the emotions thoughts the artist outlined in the proposal. The only area of improvement is for the first thumbnail. It appears that the background of vertical lines is suppose to be a repeating pattern. The first set of lines do not mirror the proceeding set of lines however this is masked because they are made to be in the background while offering a clear focal point. Overall the artist was able to address all points outlined in the proposal. The colors that the artist will be using will certainly help to drive this message and help the viewer to understand the direction of the artist. The artwork was well designed and the proposal made it easy to understand what the viewer should walk away with.

I post my original proposal here, I wanted to say that I could not decide
between
the four designs once I had them in color. SO, I did 4 color schemes for each of the four designs; a total of 16 color designs contained in 4 files. A 5th file is included with the four color schemes I used on all 4 designs. I mainly did this because other than the analogous color scheme, there was no other color scheme that included all the colors that describe my design in color.

The design principles that I started
out with in my original proposal, and that I have not dropped
from the plans, include: line, shape, size, contrast, variety, shading and contrast to create depth.
Next, you will see that I have up
loaded 2 designs for this assignment plus the corresponding
color pallet I used for each. The numbers on the file name of the design are the same number used on the pallets' file name. This is much less than I submitted for assignment two, but I really liked what I was able to change on two of those 16 so I submitted both of those. I hope you enjoy! Oh, and yes, I do realize that I am going to have to narrow it down to just one design for Week 6 Assignment 1! :)
I believe the hues I have chosen help define the focal
point of the designs. The hues also help
to create
balance with variety and unity as well as the color strategy, which works with the design principles.

Week 6 Assignment 1 For my design, I wanted to visually create the projection of love; a design I could frame and hang on my bedroom wall. The composition is a complimentary color harmony consisting of tints, tones, and shades of red and cyan. The composition utilizes variety in the different hues of the ribbon lines coming out from the center. It is asymmetrically balanced with the larger hearts on the left with smaller hearts in greater quantity on the right. The greatest contrast would be the center of the focal point heart. The focal point heart should appear closer than the rest as it is in sharper focus and is created with highly saturated hues. It utilizes unity as appearing as a completed composition utilizing complementary hues in a balanced way. The warmer, more saturated hues up front; decreasing the saturation and details more and more as the hearts get further away. I felt that the complementary color harmony would work best due to the meanings for red, which include passion, romance, love, fun, energy, is inherently exciting and draws attention. Additionally, pink, which is a tint of red, means youthful, feminine, healthy, sweetness, and happiness. Red's complement, which is cyan, is a cool hue and the total opposite of red, which is a warm hue. I used this relationship to show that from the center of something cold and distant, something warm, like love can grow. I placed the warm colors up front to appear closer and the cooler colors in the background to appear farther away. In this way I attempted to create spatial illusion with color. I also used complementary contrast between the complementary colors and attempted vibration at the center of the focal point heart. My greatest challenge was which design to use for my final composition and which color harmony worked best with the design. I believe I chose the best of two of my drafts and successfully blended them into one composition. I feel that I successfully accomplished the stated goals with my final project. Areas that are open for improvement would include working more with the wavy lines in the background. What I initially intended to do was to use a gradient so that the lighter color would be in the middle of the composition and gradually getting darker as it moved towards the edge of the picture plane. I attempted it and you see what I ended up with! lol I need to play around more with the gradient feature I guess. The goal for this assignment was to choose a color and go through the steps of learning to find all the color ranges of a specific color. This video provided helpful tips in showing how to navigate through each step. In all five stages the hue did remain constant. From the appearance of the color that you chose, the colors appear to be evenly spaced along with the selection of your color looks to be at full saturation.
The gradual progression to white, black and making the colors even to the shade of grey are all in line with the required directions. It seems as though you were able to accurately take the concepts and successfully produce the correct outcome. I do not have any comments for improvement. You have done a fantastic job.

#2 - For this assignment, the artist was asked to develop three separate color palettes based on knowledge gained from this week’s reading assignments. The first palette a Triad color harmony, consisting of three hues that are equidistant from one another and forming an equilateral triangle on the inside of the color wheel, the second a Tetrad color harmony which uses two sets of complementary colors by drawing a rectangle or square inside the color wheel, the four corners will represent a tetrad harmony. The third palette would be of the artist’s choosing, in this instance the artist chose a monochromatic palette. The artist also had to find associating words for the color palettes.
She did an excellent job in developing her three palettes. Within each palette, she incorporates various tints, tones, shades, values and saturations of her parent colors creating a palette that can be used in a high or low key composition. She also wisely chose the words she felt could be associated with each palette. Her monochromatic palette associated with wealth, royalty and respect, uses purple as its parent color and offers a range of tints, tones and shades. Her triad palette utilizes a yellow-green, pink and ocean blue as the parent color but focuses on more greens, blues and lavenders to depict the associated feelings of nature, calm and tranquility.
One suggestion for the artist to consider with integrating the triad composition more effectively with the associated words would be to incorporate more browns into the palette. Also with the tetrad palette, the artist should consider not grouping like colors in order to achieve more horizontal, vertical and diagonal variance. Overall the artist did a wonderful job in achieving the objective of the assignment and selecting colors and their expressive meanings.

#2 - This work created by the artist is done in two different color schemes, the first of which is called complementary harmony. This one is done by using only two colors, these colors are called complementary because they are opposites on a color wheel. The second is referred to as a split-complementary harmony, which uses three colors instead of just two. The “split” means that you use a color and the two colors adjacent to the complementary color of you first color choice.
The artist started with an excellent design that allows for plenty of texture and depth. The use of varying shapes to create a sense of movement really sets this design off. The main aspect of color that conflicts in my mind is the fact that the colors appear to be distributed evenly, but the brighter colored ball is in the middle ground instead of the foreground creating a sense of conflict in my mind. The artist had a great choice of hues to use for this piece, they are highly effective at distinguishing between which color scheme is which.
Overall the design was very well done and the colors used shows the level of understanding the artist has about the relationship of complementary colors. The artist shows that a high level of attention was paid to detail from the use of gradient colors and accurate use of opacity.

I took your advice and made the changes you suggested but then I no longer cared for the design so I
scrapped it and started over from scratch.
The tints, tones and shades I used in this version are much softer; more tranquil-like and a much simpler
design. I was going for abstract and trying to let the colors talk with just a little help from the flowing
ribbons. I picture them blowing in a slight breeze. I hope you like it.
Here is the revision to the original w4a3 design that I ended up scrapping and another version I made of the
second design above:
Former Classmate Critique This triad pallet of colors was placed very well within the image. Using these hues together gave a very familiar image. We can see the shape of butterflies with the values from the pink and blue as well as in the shape of the flowers. We also see how using different values of green give a more earthy, nature like feel. It makes the image more free, it gives us the sense this is nature and these creatures are roaming freely among the flowers. I feel these were brought together very well. They compliment one another, nature with a calm feeling, along side a nice high-key pink giving it a peaceful feeling. Altogether they give a very tranquil and peaceful image. This pallet shows a very nice array of the chosen hues value. There is little saturation in this piece, but we do see a wide range of colors. These color's come together well and they are used in a very calming way. They bring the colors with the image into an even more tranquil place. They also show a triad used in a very clear and calming matter. If i suggested anything helpful it would be that in such a setting a bit more saturation would have added a bit more distinguished areas. Although for this piece it was perfectly elegant without the added saturation. I would suggest to continue exploring the values. This image shows a very nice arrangement of them, but it never hurts to get even more familiar.

Week 5 Assignment 1
The intended objective of my assignment will be romantic, energetic, cheerful, and happy.
My motivation to create a work like this is, I feel you cannot have too much of these traits in your life. I plan on using an analogous color pallet of either pink, red, orange, yellow or purple, pink, red, orange, using the various tints, tones, and shades of all the colors. It just depends on which pallet works the best in conveying my idea and feeling(s). I will of course explore other color harmonies as well.
I plan to include hearts, bubbles, swirls, curly cues, and ribbon type shapes so that the
colors are what convey most of the message (i.e., letting color be the hero of my design.) I will be going for a flowing design with fairly simple shapes.
As far as having any desired goal for this subject matter or what I want to achieve with this
subject, I would have to say it would simply be art for art's sake. I want to create something that I could hang on the wall in my bedroom. I plan to use various saturation levels, tints, tones and hue shades to create depth and form in my design so that it will elicit an aesthetic response from its viewers.
Challenges I anticipate encountering would include getting the swirling shapes of the
background to appear to be free flowing and wavy. Also, keeping the background in the background and not letting it overpower the other design elements. To overcome that challenge I plan to review some tutorials, and hopefully I will find even more inspiration in the process.
So, in conclusion, I plan to use line, shape, size, and contrast variety. I also plan to use
shading and contrast to create depth to my design. I am sure some of the other design principles will come into play as well, as the project develops. Fellow Classmates Critique Formal Critique In this assignment the task was to draft a proposal of a design of interest. During this process this would allow the artist to brainstorm over potential designs while deciding on some of the basic design tips learned within the last five weeks. The artist was to decide on color strategies, design elements and principals. To further help with the process the artist was charged to think of any challenges that may present any difficulty and present ways that they may be overcome. The artist has presented a very descriptive proposal that allows the reader to imagine exactly what the artist wants to convey. The outline of the proposal addressed all of the required areas required in the assignment. The thumbnails were the required color scale each picture conveyed the emotions thoughts the artist outlined in the proposal. The only area of improvement is for the first thumbnail. It appears that the background of vertical lines is suppose to be a repeating pattern. The first set of lines do not mirror the proceeding set of lines however this is masked because they are made to be in the background while offering a clear focal point. Overall the artist was able to address all points outlined in the proposal. The colors that the artist will be using will certainly help to drive this message and help the viewer to understand the direction of the artist. The artwork was well designed and the proposal made it easy to understand what the viewer should walk away with.

Create at least four different color studies of that one design. • Consider the various color harmonies explored this session, such as monochromatic, analogous, warm, cool, complementary, split-complementary, triad, and tetrad. • Consider other color strategies such as spatial illusion, value contrast, complementary contrast, vibration, and color dissonance. • Each color study should effectively use hue, value, and saturation towards a cohesive draft design. Consider the effectiveness of the overall aesthetic of each color study as you continue to develop your final project idea.
Week 5 Assignment 2
Before I post my original proposal here, I wanted to say that I could not decide between
the four designs once I had them in color. SO, I did 4 color schemes for each of the four designs; a total of 16 color designs contained in 4 files. A 5th file is included with the four color schemes I used on all 4 designs. I mainly did this because other than the analogous color scheme, there was no other color scheme that included all the colors that describe my design in color.

Week 5 Assignment 3
The design principles that I started out with in my original proposal, and that I have not dropped
from the plans, include: line, shape, size, contrast, variety, shading and contrast to create depth.
Next, you will see that I have up loaded 2 designs for this assignment plus the corresponding
color pallet I used for each. The numbers on the file name of the design are the same number used on the pallets' file name. This is much less than I submitted for assignment two, but I really liked what I was able to change on two of those 16 so I submitted both of those. I hope you enjoy! Oh, and yes, I do realize that I am going to have to narrow it down to just one design for Week 6 Assignment 1! :)
I believe the hues I have chosen help define the focal point of the designs. The hues also help to create
balance with variety and unity as well as the color strategy, which works with the design principles.

Week 6 Assignment 1 For my design, I wanted to visually create the projection of love; a design I could frame and hang on my bedroom wall. The composition is a complimentary color harmony consisting of tints, tones, and shades of red and cyan. The composition utilizes variety in the different hues of the ribbon lines coming out from the center. It is asymmetrically balanced with the larger hearts on the left with smaller hearts in greater quantity on the right. The greatest contrast would be the center of the focal point heart. The focal point heart should appear closer than the rest as it is in sharper focus and is created with highly saturated hues. It utilizes unity as appearing as a completed composition utilizing complementary hues in a balanced way. The warmer, more saturated hues up front; decreasing the saturation and details more and more as the hearts get further away. I felt that the complementary color harmony would work best due to the meanings for red, which include passion, romance, love, fun, energy, is inherently exciting and draws attention. Additionally, pink, which is a tint of red, means youthful, feminine, healthy, sweetness, and happiness. Red's complement, which is cyan, is a cool hue and the total opposite of red, which is a warm hue. I used this relationship to show that from the center of something cold and distant, something warm, like love can grow. I placed the warm colors up front to appear closer and the cooler colors in the background to appear farther away. In this way I attempted to create spatial illusion with color. I also used complementary contrast between the complementary colors and attempted vibration at the center of the focal point heart. My greatest challenge was which design to use for my final composition and which color harmony worked best with the design. I believe I chose the best of two of my drafts and successfully blended them into one composition. I feel that I successfully accomplished the stated goals with my final project. Areas that are open for improvement would include working more with the wavy lines in the background. What I initially intended to do was to use a gradient so that the lighter color would be in the middle of the composition and gradually getting darker as it moved towards the edge of the picture plane. I attempted it and you see what I ended up with! lol I need to play around more with the gradient feature I guess.
